As  I mentioned in an earlier post both Paul and I are attempting to learn some basic Mandarin phrases, as Mandarin is the official language of China. Believe me when I say it is very challenging to learn any new language , but especially Mandarin. Unlike French or Spanish there are no words or phrases which vaguely resemble English, so we feel like newborns must feel learning their first language.

Also there are four or five different tones in Mandarin, so you have to be careful how you say what you say! Depending on the tone, you could buy or sell your dinner!

Well, enough whining ! I must get back to my lesson.
