Fred and Liz - Two of the people who are helping us with our adventure.
Today Paul and I went to York Region Learning Connections to bring them my signed contracts. There were four contracts in all -one with the Chinese government and one with the Beijing Foreign Language School, where I will teach, and written in English and Mandarin- so four in all.
We met with two of the people who are making this whole process much easier, since there is a lot of paperwork and red tape involved. Fred Liu and Liz Burnett have been working hard to ensure that it will be a smooth transition and I thank them very much. They have been very patient and understanding when I have gotten a little anxious about things and have assured me that everything will be alright.
Now that we have a contract the next step is to get a work visa, which again Fred is working hard to do. In the meantime I am trying to learn some Mandarin, which is the official language of China. I found a course on line and have been practicing for about three weeks. I tested myself by saying to my daughter in law Ling , who is Chinese, “Woh duh jongwen boo hau” (My Chinese is bad) and she understood me!
But if someone speaks back to me in Mandarin I’ll be lost!
Your blog looks great. I’m getting as excited as you are to read about all your interesting experiences. I can’t wait to see your pictures.
Congratulations and have a great time.
Linda
